Celebrating Johann Strauss

On the occasion of the 200th birthday of Johann Strauss Sohn (1825—1899), the whole of Vienna is celebrating the great and famous composer in 2025.

Johann Strauss was a superstar of his time who enthralled audiences with his artistic work: from dance music to sophisticated concert music to his plays. Numerous tours have taken him all over Europe and halfway around the world to the USA. He also had entrepreneurial thinking and organizational talent, which his brothers Josef and Eduard also skillfully used in the family business, while his wives supervised appointments and finances in the background. He engaged artists such as the singer and first director of the Theater an der Wien, Marie Geistinger, and the theatre star Alexander Girardi, who guaranteed the success of his operettas.
